Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how individual pieces fit together to form a whole and envisioning where each part needs to be placed in the big picture.

Being able to register something visually (with our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important when it comes to learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, are made up of sequences and patterns.

Often, a puzzle has a special topic or theme, which you can talk about while doing it. This is a great way to talk about anything from jungle animals to astronomy, flags of the world, or telling time and expand your child's vocabulary.
