Clay Modelling Kit - Jar & Candle Holder
Let your child shape their own little jar and candle holder—perfect for the home or as a heartfelt gift for birthdays, Mother’s Day, or Christmas.Â
With a little help from an adult, children from age 5 can learn to make a candle holder, shape a jar, and decorate it with clay shells (a handy silicone mould is included).
You might want to start with the easy part—the candle holder:
- Knead a piece of clay thoroughly and shape it into a ballÂ
- Press the candle holder into the clay
- Make sure the base is flat so the candle stands straight
- Then smooth the surface or add your own little details
Press a piece of clay firmly into the shell mould and carefully remove it again. Attach the shell to the candle holder by softening the clay with a little water.
How to make the jar:
- Roll the clay out nice and smooth, cut out a base, and roll another piece into a rectangle for the sidesÂ
- Join the pieces with a little water and smooth the seams
- You can add small waves around the rim—it’s a fun detail and helps hide any wonky edges
- Finally, shape a lid and add a shell on top. Let everything dry, and it’s ready to use
The clay air-dries and doesn’t need to go in the oven. Now it just needs to sit and dry… while the excitement (and impatience!) builds.
Once everything is dry (give it about a day), your child can proudly display their jar filled with little treasures or light a candle and enjoy the soft glow. Maybe you’ll feel like painting your creations too?
Set includes:
- Self-hardening clay
- Candle holder insert
- Silicone shell mould (also great for other crafts and creations)
- Modelling tool
- Clay cutter

Toys for learning through play
Play is essential for children’s learning, well-being, and development. Through play, children learn about themselves and the world around them.
Play helps children:
• stay curious
• focus and become absorbed in what they're doing
• take on age-appropriate challenges
• build confidence
We believe children learn best by doing things for themselves:
• by making mistakes
• by getting messy
• by falling down and getting back up again
Resilience, confidence, and courage grow through experience, one small step at a time.
That's why we carefully choose toys that encourage independence, imagination, movement, and social skills — offering just the right balance of support, freedom, and opportunities to grow.
Carefully selected toys
We carefully handpick every toy from the vast world of toys available today. The only toys that make it into our range are ones we'd be happy to give our own children.
Every toy at ToyAcademy should:
• support learning through play
• be made from durable, high-quality materials
• be safe and enjoyable for children to play with
