Have conversations about what happens to food inside the body, where our food comes from, and when we usually eat it. This is great for your child’s vocabulary and knowledge. Toy food is ideal for role play, which inspires your child to imitate real-life situations such as shopping, cooking, or visiting a café.
Role play where children imitate everyday activities develops their understanding of the world they live in. With play food, your child can also play and be silly with food in a way that is maybe not acceptable at the table with real food. You can also use the play food to play grocery store and practise making special offers, writing signs, and politely greeting customers. Your child can practise taking payments and giving back change, which improves their math skills.
