Maileg was created in 1999 by Dorthe og Erik Mailil, who set out to design durable toys with lots of soul and personality as a counterbalance plastic toys and throw-away culture. The name Maileg is a combination of the Danish word for ""play"" and the founders' surname. Based in Herning, Denmark, Maileg designs toy figures and accessories that radiate Nordic simplicity and ""hygge"".

It's all about building worlds and immersing yourself in stories with toys whose appearance and quality will last for years. Maileg emphasises high quality in the details and materials of their toys. Their designs speak to both children and grown-ups. Not all Maileg products are made to be played with - some of the mice, elves, and other figurines are purely decorative.
