Maileg was created in 1999 by Erik og Dorthe Mailil, who set out to design durable toys with lots of soul and personality as a counterbalance to fast trends and throw-away culture. The name Maileg is made up of the Danish word for ""play"" and the founders' surname. Based in Herning, Denmark, Maileg designs Christmas elves, dollhouses, and toys full of Nordic simplicity and ""hygge"".
