Maileg was founded in 1999 by Erik og Dorthe Mailil, who set out to design durable toys with personality and soul as a counterbalance plastic toys and fast trends. The name Maileg is made up of the founders' surname and the Danish word for play. Based in Herning, Denmark, Maileg makes animal figures, Christmas elves, and accessories full of Nordic simplicity and ""hygge"".

Maileg's dollhouses, mice, and elves are made with immersive, calm play in mind. It's all about building worlds and telling stories with toys whose quality and appearance will last through years of play.
