Stretching, squishing, pulling, and squeezing with your hands magically improves your child’s concentration, even though it is actually a form of distraction. For instance, when your child needs to sit still and pay attention to a fairy tale, it’s wonderful to knead and fiddle with different types of playdough, clay, or sensory slime while listening.

Playdough lets your bigger child make anything from three-headed aliens to queens, kings, princes, and princesses and bring their craziest ideas to life. For small children, playdough is mostly about the sensory experience.

We carry playdough of many different types and colours and different firmness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. Among other things, firm playdough is excellent for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape better.

It’s a calm activity that can help your child be still for just six more minutes - or help them endure long train or car rides without wiggling around in their seat. Particularly, for children who experience motor restlessness, playing with something that engages fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can bring a sense of calm.

Oil-based playdough tends to stay soft for several years. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading a bit of water into it.
