Writing, drawing, and painting strengthen your child's fine motor skills and pencil grasp, which are essential skills for learning to write letters and numbers legibly.
Drawing for fun simply helps your child gain control of the pencil, which is a big advantage for schoolwork. And it's just so lovely to receive a little handwritten letter from your child that says "lov yu" - and equally surprising and amusing to see the first homemade sign stuck to the door of your child’s room that says "no parints aloud". Later on, it’s time for more challenging writing projects such as handwritten cards for Christmas and birthdays – made possible by a good grasp and a steady handwriting.
The activity is great for your child's well-being and ability to learn:
- Invites your child to immerse themselves and calm their noggin.
- Develops hand-eye coordination, a skill we rely on for instance when throwing, kicking, or catching a ball that comes flying at us in PE class, or when cutting accurately with a pair of scissors.
