Play food is great for pretend play, which inspires your child to copy real-life situations such as shopping, cooking, or being in a café. Talk about where food comes from, when we typically eat it, and where it goes after we swallow it. This is great for your child’s knowledge and vocabulary.

Role play where children act out everyday activities expands their understanding of the world around them. With play food, your child also gets to play and be silly with food in a way that is most likely not okay at the table with real food. Also, you can expand your child's play opportunities by playing grocery store, maybe with homemade signs and price tags. That way, you can practise both words and numbers, and your child can gain confidence in calculating prices, giving back change, or greeting customers politely.
