The modelling clay is easy to wash out, even if a piece gets squished into your child’s sleeve while they’re sculpting their masterpiece.

Pulling, squishing, squeezing, and stretching with your hands magically improves your child’s concentration, even though it is in fact a type of distraction. For example, when your child needs to sit down and pay attention to a fairy tale, it’s wonderful to knead and fiddle with different kinds of playdough, clay, or sensory slime while listening.

For very young children, playdough is mainly about the sensory experience. And bigger kids can use playdough to bring their craziest ideas to life. With playdough, your child can make anything from fierce dragons to queens, kings, princes, and princesses.

We carry playdough of several different colours and types and with different firmness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For example, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape better.

It’s a quiet activity that can help your child stay still for just six more minutes - or help them cope with long train or car rides without restlessly moving around in their seat. Particularly, for children who experience a lot of motor restlessness, fiddling with something that stimulates fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can bring a sense of calm.

Playdough can be either water-based or oil-based, and each has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough stays soft for several years.
