Squishing, pulling, patting, squeezing, and stretching with your hands magically sharpens your child’s concentration, even though it is really a type of distraction. For example, when your child needs to sit down and pay attention to a story, it’s great to knead and fiddle with various types of playdough, clay, or sensory slime while listening.

Playdough lets your bigger child make anything from fierce dragons to princesses and knights and bring their craziest ideas to life. For the littlest ones, playdough is mainly about the sensory experience.

We carry playdough of several different colours and types and different hardness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. Among other things, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

It’s a calm activity that can help your child stay still for just 6 more minutes - or help them endure long car or train rides without wiggling around in their seat. In particular, for children who experience motor restlessness, fiddling with something that activates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can bring a sense of calm.

You can get water-based or oil-based playdough, and each type has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by mixing in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for years.
