A monster friend inspires your child to think about acceptance in their world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as scary in stories and fairy tales. When something stands out from the norm, we tend to react with fear and suspicion.
Playing with monsters expands your child’s understanding of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster play is popular with children of any gender, which opens up a world of shared play across other interests such as trucks, princesses, or swords. And monsters give your child’s imagination free rein - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Normative success criteria dissolve, and your child will feel proud to show you their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is anything but normal.
We carry playdough of several different colours and types and different hardness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. Among other things, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.
It’s a quiet activity that can help your child sit still for just 5 more minutes - or help them deal with long car or train rides without restlessly wiggling around in their seat. Especially, for children with a lot of motor restlessness, playing with something that activates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can create a sense of calm.
Oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for several years. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading a bit of water into it.
Of course, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modelling clay you'll find at ToyAcademy are CE-marked and approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other toys.
