A monster friend introduces the idea of acceptance to your child's play. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as dangerous in stories and fairy tales. We often respond with suspicion or fear when something is outside the norm.

Monsters have an important place in your child's play, because they expand your child’s understanding of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster play is popular with children of any gender, which inspires kids to play together across their different interests, like princesses, swords, or cars. And monsters let your child's imagination run wild - because it's completely up to your child to decide what their monster looks like and whether it has eyes on its knees, antennas, five arms, or three ears. Normative success criteria dissolve, and your child can feel proud to present their new monster friend, who, thank goodness, is anything but normal.

We carry playdough of several different colours and types and different hardness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For instance, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

It’s a calm activity that can help your child sit still for just 5 more minutes - or help them cope with long train or car rides without fidgeting and moving about in their seat. Especially, for children with a lot of motor restlessness, fiddling with something that stimulates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can help them calm down.

You can get water-based or oil-based playdough, and each type has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading a bit of water into it. But oil-based playdough tends to stay soft for several years.
