A monster friend inspires your child to think about acceptance in their world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as frightening in stories and fairy tales. We humans often react with fear and suspicion when something breaks with the norm.
Monsters have an important place in your child's play, because they expand your child’s idea of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster friends are popular with children of any gender, which inspires kids to play together across their different interests, like princesses, swords, or cars. And monsters give your child’s imagination free rein - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Normative rules of anatomy don't apply, and your child can feel proud to show you their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is far from normal.
We carry playdough of several different types and colours and with different hardness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. For example, firm playdough is perfect for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape well.
It’s a quiet activity that can help your child be still for just seven more minutes - or help them endure long car or train rides without restlessly moving about in their seat. Especially, for children who struggle with motor restlessness, playing with something that activates their hands, proprioception, imagination, and fine motor skills while sitting still can create a sense of calm.
Playdough can be water-based or oil-based, and each has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by adding in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for several years.
Of course, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modelling clay we sell at ToyAcademy are CE-marked and approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other toys.
