A monster friend inspires your child to think about acceptance in their world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as frightening in stories and fairy tales. We often respond with suspicion or fear when something is outside the norm.
Playing with monsters expands your child’s idea of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster friends are popular with children of any gender, which opens up a world of shared play across other interests such as trucks, princesses, or swords. And with monsters, your child's imagination can run wild - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Monsters don’t have to look "perfect" (in a normative sense), and your child will proudly present their new monster friend, who, thank goodness, is anything but normal.
We carry playdough of many different colours and types and different firmness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For instance, firm playdough is perfect for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds better.
It’s a quiet activity that can help your child be still for just seven more minutes - or help them endure long train or car rides without restlessly wiggling around in their seat. Particularly, for children who experience a lot of motor restlessness, fiddling with something that activates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can create a sense of calm.
You can get water-based or oil-based playdough, and each type has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for years.
Of course, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modelling clay you'll find at ToyAcademy are CE-marked and approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other toys.
