A monster friend invites acceptance into your child's world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as frightening in stories and fairy tales. We humans often react with fear and suspicion when something breaks with the norm.

Monsters have an important place in your child's play, because they expand your child’s understanding of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster play is popular with children of any gender, which opens up a world of shared play across other interests such as trucks, princesses, or swords. And monsters give your child’s imagination free rein - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Normative success criteria dissolve, and your child can feel proud to play with their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is anything but normal.

We carry playdough of several different colours and types and with different hardness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. For instance, firm playdough is perfect for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds better.

It’s a calm activity that can help your child be still for just 7 more minutes - or help them deal with long train or car rides without wiggling around in their seat. Particularly, for children with a lot of motor restlessness, playing with something that stimulates fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can create a sense of calm.

Oil-based playdough tends to stay soft for several years. You can soften water-based playdough by adding a bit of water to it.
