A monster friend introduces the idea of acceptance to your child's world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as frightening in stories and fairy tales. We humans often react with fear and suspicion when something breaks with the norm.

Playing with monsters expands your child’s idea of what a friend can look like. Also, monsters are popular with children of any gender, which opens up a world of shared play across other interests such as trucks, princesses, or swords. And monsters let your child's imagination run wild - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Normative rules of anatomy don't apply, and your child will feel proud to show you their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is anything but normal.

We carry playdough of many different colours and types and different firmness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For instance, firm playdough is ideal for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

This activity is quiet and can help your child be still for just 5 more minutes - or help them deal with long car or train rides without wiggling around in their seat. In particular, for children who struggle with motor restlessness, playing with something that activates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can bring a sense of calm.

You can get water-based or oil-based playdough, and each has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading a bit of water into it. But oil-based playdough tends to stay soft for years.
