A monster friend introduces the idea of acceptance to your child's world. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as dangerous in stories and fairy tales. When something stands out from the norm, we tend to react with fear and suspicion.
Playing with monsters expands your child’s idea of what a friend can look like. Also, monster friends are popular with children of any gender, which opens up a world of shared play across other interests such as trucks, princesses, or swords. And monsters let your child's imagination run wild - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Normative success criteria dissolve, and your child can feel proud to present their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is anything but normal.
We carry playdough of many different colours and types and with different hardness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For example, firm playdough is very suitable for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape well.
It’s a calm activity that can help your child be still for just seven more minutes - or help them cope with long car or train rides without wiggling around in their seat. In particular, for children who experience motor restlessness, fiddling with something that activates fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can help them calm down.
Oil-based playdough remains soft for years. You can soften water-based playdough by mixing in a bit of water.
