Suitable for children aged 1 yr. to 5 yrs.A lot goes on during a day that your child actually doesn’t know is going to happen. The ability to plan, organise, and structure is not developed until later in childhood or when your child becomes a teenager. Therefore, pictograms help your child predict what's going to happen next.
Children can’t think in hours and minutes. They rather think in events. It’s difficult for children to form a thought sequence like “first I have to get dressed, then brush my teeth, then we leave the house, and when I come home I can watch 15 minutes of TV”. And that’s why getting everyone ready and out the door can sometimes be a stressful mess of meltdowns and despair.
Children with executive function challenges, for instance children who experience sensory overload or are on the autism spectrum, especially benefit from pictograms as a tool to plan and keep track of their day. But many children find that their day becomes easier to predict when it's explained to them with visuals. That's precisely why pictograms can be helpful.
