A monster friend introduces the idea of acceptance to your child's play. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as scary in stories and fairy tales. We humans often react with fear and suspicion when something breaks with the norm.
Monsters have an important place in your child's play, because they expand your child’s idea of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monsters are popular with children of any gender, which inspires kids to play together across their different interests, like princesses, swords, or cars. And monsters give your child’s imagination free rein - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Monsters don’t have to look "perfect" (in a normative sense), and your child will proudly play with their new monster friend, who, fortunately, is anything but normal.
We carry playdough of several different types and colours and with different firmness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. For example, firm playdough is perfect for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.
It’s a quiet activity that can help your child be still for just 5 more minutes - or help them cope with long car or train rides without restlessly wiggling about in their seat. Especially, for children who experience a lot of motor restlessness, playing with something that engages fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can help them calm down.
Oil-based playdough remains soft for several years. You can soften water-based playdough by mixing in a bit of water.
Naturally, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modelling clay you'll find at ToyAcademy are CE-marked and approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other products.
